In my acting class, I found
this monologue, and the way that Jane's perception was warped and more lethal/exaggerated reminded me of the Chief. Jane has just recovered from a nervous breakdown and has attempted suicide, and she is talking to her psychiatrist.
I completely agree with Apara, in that I think Jane does remind me of the Chief. The whole experience kind of reminded me of the Combine theme in the book as well. Especially in the fact that there seemed to be an endless amount of understudies. This line really stood out to me, as it made me think that there will always be people collapsing (insane) and more will be brought in to take their place, or it could be taken as everyone is the same and easily replaceable. I haven't decided what I believe yet. The fact that they did not clap hard enough and Tinkerbell dies reminds me of no matter how hard the patients try in the ward, they cannot get exactly what they want or ever fully win.
